Water and salt recovery from stockpile leachate on the basis of a combined membrane distillation-crystallization process
SolarSpring GmbH will receive a total grant amount of 233,254.00 euros in the three-year term for the project named „HaSiMem“ which is supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF). Five partners including 2 SMEs, one research institution and a mining association are participating in the project.
The expected benefit of the project lies in the increase of added value by the water extraction and furthermore in the possibility to produce marketable salts.
The project is funded by the BMBF and overseen by the Project Management Agency Karlsruhe (PTKA). The project is expected to start on February 1st, 2021 and end on January 31st, 2024. After the project is over, the pilot plant will be used for further testing in the field.
This will enable the creation of additional references in similar and related applications, which will generate company orders.
A direct material recycling of the salts can take place if the quality criteria for a commercial product are met, if a sufficiently high and continuous as well as economically viable sales potential is available. This could be the case, for example, in the extraction of sodium chloride (NaCl) in industrial salt quality or as road de-icing salt.
More about that in one of the next SolarSpring newsletters.
Yours sincerely,
Daniel Pfeifle, CEO
